Welcome! I’m Jess

Well hello! You must like food, just like me.

I’m Jess, the creator of Stuck on Sweet, and I’m so glad you’re here. I started this blog in 2012 and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

How It All Began

Back when I worked in healthcare philanthropy, my friend Julia from A Cedar Spoon and I would read food blogs together over lunch. Before long, we were both writing our own. I’m so thankful we started this journey side by side, and we’re still friends to this day.

What You’ll Find on the Blog

Here at Stuck On Sweet you will find recipes that are first and foremost approachable.

My goal is to share recipes that people will actually cook in their kitchens over and over again. Recipes that will fuel your body and satisfy your hungry stomachs. I am all about balance so you will find an array of recipes from indulgent main courses, to desserts, salads and more.

I find inspiration everywhere, but a few big sources are my Iowa/Dutch roots, my husband’s Italian family, and my love of sweets. You will notice a mix of “farm” style recipes, Italian recipes and desserts.

With that said, I do enjoy all sorts of food so I like to share simple salads, soups and family friendly recipes as well!

I am also in the thick of motherhood so kid friendly family recipes are definitely on rotation in my kitchen.

Credentials

I studied Communication Studies and Business at the University of Iowa, then worked in the nonprofit healthcare world for several years.

Eventually, I followed my heart into food blogging. And after 13 years, it’s still my favorite thing to do.

Life Behind the Blog

My husband, Vin, and I met in college and have been together since we were 19.

We got married in 2013 and since then, had three beautiful children, Raya, Nora and JJ. We also have a furbaby named Izzy – she’s the best!

We reside in the Western Suburbs of Chicago.

I grew up in West Des Moines Iowa. Growing up in Iowa was truly a gift! I loved the simple yet fulfilling childhood I had. I loved visiting my grandparent’s farm and most of all, I loved the people.

A lot of my early recipes on the blog are inspired from Iowa, specifically meals like my Grandma’s Sloppy Joe’s. Her brownies are also a favorite!

Those nostalgic dishes will always be a part of me. I have Dutch roots which means I love anything almond, hence all the almond dessert recipes I make!

When I am not working, I’m drinking coffee, going on long walks, reading romance novels, and exercising. Oh! And raising 3 kids and spending time with my husband.

Family portrait on a bridge during fall, happy parents with children, autumn foliage, outdoor lifestyle photography.
