A simple appetizer is what everyone seems to need in a pinch. With just 3 ingredients, these bacon wrapped asparagus are the perfect app for any celebration. Simply wrap thinly sliced bacon around a bunch of asparagus, sprinkle with brown sugar and roast until crispy. They’re sweet and salty…these are delicious!
This idea for Bacon Wrapped Asparagus popped into my head right before Easter. My family and I were trying to keep things super simple for a brunch menu – we decided on egg casserole, fruit and scones. It just didn’t seem like enough so I threw together this idea to wrap bacon around asparagus, sprinkle with some brown sugar and roast. These ended up being a huge hit and incredibly easy to make.
I loved them so much I made them again for dinner the next night with steak and salad. That’s what I love about these…they really go with just about anything. We enjoyed with brunch and dinner. It’s a great side dish AND appetizer.
The key to making these is using thin bacon. The thick cut just doesn’t quite get crispy enough so make sure you use a thinly sliced bacon. Other than that, this appetizer is SUPER easy.
They’re beautiful to plate up as well. I am not the fanciest “dinner party” host. I love to cook for people, but I tend to keep things simple…perhaps it’s because I have 3 kids. ha! These bacon wrapped asparagus don’t need any extra love – they’re pretty just as is on a plate.
Roasted, salty, sticky and sweet. SO GOOD!!!
Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
Asparagus is bunched together then wrapped in salty bacon and sprinkled with brown sugar then roasted until crispy and caramelized.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch of asparagus
- 1 package thin bacon (don't get the thick cut)
- brown sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a rimmed cookie sheet with parchment paper if you have it (this will help with clean up but you don't need it).
Next, cut the aparaugs in half then take 3 of them and wrap a thin slice of bacon around it. Place on your prepared cookie sheet. Do this until you've used all the asparagus. You will probably have left over bacon. Finally, sprinkle each with a little brown sugar then bake for 25-30 minutes until bacon is crispy. Enjoy!
Notes
These can be prepared ahead of time then baked later.
