This recipe for candied sweet potatoes is absolutely amazing. Sweet potatoes are boiled then covered with an amazing honey brown sugar orange sauce then baked until they’re caramelized and candied. These sweet potatoes melt in your mouth and are the perfect side dish for the holidays!
I am so excited to share this recipe with you because this is the first time I’ve ever had a candied sweet potato…and let me tell you, I’m hooked! My good friend made these for our Friendsgiving and I had to get the recipe. They paired SO well with our Thanksgiving meal, they were bright orange and I kept going back for more. Honestly? It was my favorite part of the meal.
Now, I do like sweet potatoes. I don’t loooooove them though. They’re definitely something I enjoy because I know they’re good for me and I am happy to eat them because of that. However, when they are candied like this? It’s a whole different story. They’re addicting, absolutely delicious and I actually crave them sometimes…especially with a saltier meal.
The sweet potatoes themselves melt in your mouth – it’s wonderful. The sauce is what makes these incredible though. A combination of butter, brown sugar, honey, orange juice and orange rind is simmered until hot and then poured over the sweet potatoes.
While the sweet potatoes bake, they soak up the sauce so every part of each potato is filled with this sweet orange sauce. I absolutely love the orange in this recipe. It takes the potatoes to the next level. We all know that brown sugar or honey is a great with sweet potatoes, but when you add orange to it? It’s a game changer. It’s absolutely delicious.
These go so well with Turkey and ham…even a savory chicken dish would be great. I highly suggest you add these to your Christmas menu if the main course is meat. They will pair so well with the entire meal. Enjoy!
