This recipe for candied sweet potatoes is absolutely amazing. Sweet potatoes are boiled then covered with an amazing honey brown sugar orange sauce then baked until they’re caramelized and candied. These sweet potatoes melt in your mouth and are the perfect side dish for the holidays!

I am so excited to share this recipe with you because this is the first time I’ve ever had a candied sweet potato…and let me tell you, I’m hooked! My good friend made these for our Friendsgiving and I had to get the recipe. They paired SO well with our Thanksgiving meal, they were bright orange and I kept going back for more. Honestly? It was my favorite part of the meal.

Directions:
- First, peel and dice up some sweet potatoes and boil for about 5 minutes. Carefully remove the pot into a baking dish.
- While the potatoes are boiling, making the sauce! Simply add butter, brown sugar, honey, orange juice, orange ride and little potato water to a sauce pan and place over medium heat. Simmer until warmed and bubbling.
- Lastly, pour the sauce over the boiled sweet potatoes at bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool slightly before serving.
While the sweet potatoes bake, they soak up the sauce so every part of each potato is filled with this honey brown sugar orange sauce. I absolutely love the orange in this recipe. It takes the potatoes to the next level. We all know that brown sugar or honey is a great with sweet potatoes, but when you add orange to it? It’s a game changer. It’s absolutely delicious.

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Diced sweet potatoes are baked in a delicious sauce consisiting of honey, brown sugar, and orange until they are candied and caramelized. They're sweet with a hint of orange!
Ingredients
- 3 pounds sweet potatoes, diced into 1 1/2 inch pieces
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/8 cup orange juice
- large piece of orange rind (use a peeler to peel a large piece)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup water from boiled potatoes
- Salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees and butter a 9x9 inch baking dish. Also, start a large pot of boiling water to boil the potatoes.
- Peel and dice the potatoes then boil for about 5 minutes then drain.
- While potatoes are boiling, add honey, brown sugar, butter, orange juice, orange rind, and potato water into a sauce pan and simmer until hot and slightly bubbling. Pour over the potatoes and bake for 30 minutes.
- The potatoes will soak up most of the sauce and become sweet and caramelized. If there's some sauce left in the baking dish, simply spoon some of it out. Sprinkle with a little salt and enjoy!
