Are you ready to make the easiest dessert ever? Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake is a recipe from my Grandma and is probably the best cake ever. Simply dump all the ingredients into a baking pan and bake!
Ahh the beauty of a dump cake. Isn’t she pretty? I can’t get over how much I love this recipe. It reminds me SO much of my Iowa roots and of my grandparents.
My grandma gave my mom a bunch of her recipes – thank the lord! My grandma was one of the cooks/bakers that never really followed a recipe so the fact that she had some written out is seriously a Godsend. I am SO happy that I at least have a few of them. Every time I make something of hers or even smell the dessert, it brings back to so many wonderful memories of Sibley Iowa – the comfort of their home, the simplicity of life there, the bedroom that my brother, sister and I all slept in, their pool table in the basement, the farm, but most of all how we all sat around the dinner table for breakfast, super (not lunch, super) and dinner, and listened to my grandpa tell stories.
It was the best. The best.
My grandma’s recipes were not all that complicated which is probably why they were so good. Raising her family on a farm meant that she made ALL the food every.single.day. Rarely did they go out for dinner as they didn’t have tons of restaurants nearby, but restaurants or no restaurant, their values were the farm and family so she made the kitchen the heart of the home.
Her recipes are simple (they had to be!), delicious and taste like home.
A lot of her recipes came from the church and from her friends. This recipe for Dump Cake came from one of her friends and is seriously AMAZING! It’s so good. I don’t how else to explain it – it’s just delicious. Vin took one bite, looked at me, raised his eyebrows and said “that’s pretty damn good.”
Enough said.

Does the layer of pineapple versus the layer of cherry make a difference next to cake mix being fluffy and done??
Jessica Erin
Nope! Just make sure to drain both really well and pat dry.

I’ve been making this dump cake for years! It is delicious, however I have NEVER drained the cherries or pineapple, I put pineapple down 1st and I do not use coconut . Just baked one an hour ago…delicious!!

I am making your Cherry dump cake to take about 5 hour drive away from my kitchen. As it will not be warm when I arrive, can it be placed in a warm oven to make it better for everyone?
Jessica Erin
Hi Nancy – yep you can warm it up if you would like! It’s fine room temperature, too.

Does left over cake need to be refrigerated
Jessica Erin
I don’t refrigerate but you can!
