Serves: 4
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic (2 garlic cloves)
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 5 dashes tobasco sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for skillet

  • Bread and butter pickles
  1. Add olive oil to a large skillet or dutch oven and place over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until brown, about 10 minutes. Drain fat.
  2. Add onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook for an additional 4 minutes.
  3. Next add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, tobasco sauce, and black pepper and stir.
  4. Turn heat down to low. Add water and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes or until thickened.
  5. Serve on a toasted bun with bread and butter pickles.
Sloppy Joes taste even better the next day. Prepare ahead of time, refrigerate, then re-heat on the stove or in a crock pot.
