How do you feel about sweet and spicy food? Love it? Hate it? Haven’t tried it?
I’m not talking about sweet food and spicy food…like separately. I’m talking about it as a pairing. You know like…sweet and spicy chicken or sweet and spicy wings or sweet and spicy sauce.
Did I need to explain that? Proooobably not.
Well…I happen to love it and these sandwiches are not only sweet and spicy but they’re smokey too!
Talk about flavor boooomb.
Does your family buy the hot pepper jelly and put it over cream cheese and serve it with crackers like mine does for the holidays? We don’t do it every year but that is the only time I ever enjoy it. I don’t know why I just don’t whip it up on a Friday night…must be a holiday thing for me.
Anyway…it’s delicious! The combination of hot pepper jelly and cream cheese sounded like it could work on a sandwich and it did! Sweet and Spicy Smoked Ham Sandwiches are definitely the new cool thing to eat in my house. We enjoyed these sandwiches on Sunday while watching football because what else do you do on a Sunday from September to February?
These whip up in a matter of minutes and even though there are limited ingredients, the flavors in this sandwich are riiiidiculous. You have the tang and creaminess from the cream cheese, the sweet and spicy from the jelly, the freshness from the spinach and the HAM, the smoked ham gives it the perfect touch of well, smokiness.
Boar’s Head SmokeMaster Beechwood Black Forest Ham is insanely good. As I mentioned, it is sooo flavorful. You could make a simple grilled cheese with this ham and it would be the best grilled cheese ever. Or you could purchase some thick slices and cube it up for a ham salad or in a soup. It’s not your typical salty ham, it has this rich depth of smoky flavor that gives a recipe that extra oomph of flavor.

- 4 slices white bread
- 8 slices Boar’s Head SmokeMaster Beechwood Smoked Black Forest Ham
- Plain cream cheese
- Hot pepper jelly
- Spinach
- Butter
- Spread cream cheese on one side of all 4 slices of bread. Then add a few leaves of spinach, 4 slices of ham and then top with the a layer of hot pepper jelly. Top the sandwich with the other slice of bread and butter the top of the bread.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle to medium-low heat. Place the sandwich butter side down in a skillet or on the griddle. Butter the top of the bread (this helps prevent your fingers from getting buttery). Heat the sandwich until the bread turns crispy and lightly browns then turn and do the same on the other side. Cut sandwich in half and enjoy.
