I’m super glad I found this recipe, it’s my favorite cake ever!! I didn’t have sour cream so I used my Greek God honey vanilla yogurt…..the best cake ever. My husband, daughter and son in law loved it.
I really struggled making the frosting. I know it was my error but I don’t know what I was doing wrong. My first batch was clumpy and the second batch seemed like the butter was trying to separate from the rest of the mixture and didn’t have the right texture.
I’m sorry to hear this! It is a more difficult frosting to make. With that said, perhaps the flour and milk mixture was too warm? Try putting it in the fridge next time for 5 minutes to get a chill on it. You may have actually over mixed it which is why it separated. It’s definitely a frosting you have to practice making and once you get it down, it gets easier and easier.
Yes you can use lite sour cream. For a two layer cake I suggest using deeper cake pans if you have them. If not, no worries. Yes you use food coloring for frosting if you want. Enjoy!

Can you use lite sour cream? Also if you just want a 2 layer cake what do you do? Do you add food coloring for the icing color?
