Homemade salsa is much easier to make than you think and it’s made with all fresh ingredients! Vine ripened tomatoes, onion, garlic, poblano pepper, lime juice, and cilantro are grilled then mixed together until junky and seasoned to your liking!

It’s the perfect time of year to make anything and everything that is FRESH. I’ve never made homemade salsa but I sure have enjoyed it and it’s darn good. My family loves Mexican food and the girls love a good restaurant style salsa so I thought I’d make a version of my own at home!
Before I start, I want to say there are a ton of ways to make salsa. I wanted these recipe to include all fresh ingredients, but you can totally switch this up and use canned tomatoes instead. I’ve heard wonderful things about using a good canned tomato in salsa!

It’s pretty simple and straight forward here – tomatoes, garlic, lime, jalapeño, poblano, and onion. I grilled these until charred to give that extra layer of flavor to the salsa. Then you simply add all the ingredients into a food processor or blender with cilantro, salt, pepper and sugar and blend/process for a few seconds.
BAM, you are done. You’re left with a chunky restaurant style salsa that tastes super fresh!

The perfect chip dipper or garnish for grilled steak tacos!
Homemade Fresh Salsa

A simple homemade salsa recipe that uses all fresh ingredients!
Ingredients
- 4-5 vine ripened tomatoes, if they're small, use 5.
- 1 poblano pepper
- 2 large cloves of garlic
- 1/4 of a sweet onion
- 1 jalapeno
- 2 limes (you will use the juice)
- Good handful of cilantro
- At least 2 teaspoons salt (taste then add more to your liking)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to about 400 degrees. Add vegetables - tomatoes, onion, garlic, poblano pepper, limes, and jalapeno. Grill until nicely charred, turning a few times. Remove and let cool slightly.
- Once cooled, remove seeds and veins from poblano and jalapeno then place all the ingredients, only using the lime juice from the limes not the whole lime, into a food processor and pulse until nicely mixed together. Taste for seasoning - may need more salt. Once you have the seasoning correct, pour into a bowl, cover and let chill for several hours so the flavors can marinate then enjoy!
Notes
Feel free to use a good canned tomato instead of fresh tomatoes. You will need about 28 ounces of canned tomatoes. Drain a little before adding to food processor. Do not salt until you taste the salsa with the canned tomatoes. Add salt to your liking.
