Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls are my new go-to appetizer for any occasion! This recipe has limited ingredients, is easy and results in an amazing flavorful appetizer. I served these with a beer and brat mustard that gave them a nice tang to complement the salty sausage. Make these Easy Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls for your next party!

So how do we make these wonderful little puff pastry sausage rolls? It’s super simple.

The Ingredients: 

  • PUFF PASTRY: A light and flaky dough that bakes up beautifully and quickly! This is used to wrap the sausage in. 
  • POLISH SAUSAGES: A unique sausage from Poland that’s known for its smoky and rich flavor. It goes super well with onions, potatoes and mustard. 
  • VIADALIA ONION: This type of onion is known for its sweetness. When sautéed it gets caramelized and sweet. It pairs well with the salty smoky sausage. 
  • EGG: An egg wash helps crisp up the puff pastry while baking. 
  • MUSATRD: The dipping sauce! a Beer and Brat mustard goes really well with polish sausage. It gives it a nice tang!

Tips for Success

  • Read through the recipe and prepare all the ingredients and equipment ahead of time. This helps prevent mistakes.
  • Remove the casings from the sausage to prevent a tough bite.
  • Make sure puff pastry is thawed, otherwise it can crack easily.
  • Use a very sharp serrated or pastry knife to cut evenly. Dull knives are actually unsafe, anyway!

Puff Pastry Sausage Roll Variations

  • Use Italian sausage and some mozzarella cheese and serve with marinara sauce!
  • Use hot dogs and make a traditional pigs in a blanket! Serve with a special sauce – mix equal parts mayo, ketchup and mustard with relish for a zesty creamy dipping sauce!
  • Use Chorizo and red onions and serve with a cheese sauce!

Easy Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls

Savory ham and puff pastry wraps with cheese and mustard, served with creamy dipping sauce on a rustic wooden platter for appetizer or snack.

Puff pastry sausage rolls are a wonderful appetizer for any occasion but especially for game day! Polish sausage and sweet onion are rolled in puff pastry and baked until golden. Serve with mustard and enjoy!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry (will use 1-2 sheets, depending on size)
  • 4 polish sausage links
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • Mustard of choice (prefer a brat mustard)
  • 1 egg, whisk
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Take puff pastry out of the box and bring to room temperature.
  3. Drizzle 1 tablepsoon olive oil in a pan and place over medium-low heat. Add diced onion and sauté until golden and caramelized.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg; set aside. This is also a good time to remove the casings from the sausages if you prefer.
  5. Once puff pastry is room temperaure, cut into 4 sections big enough to fit the sausage links. Spread caramelized onions on the pastry square along with the sausage link and roll. Pinch together well. Brush each roll with egg then slice them up into bite size pieces, about 1 inch. A sharp serrated knife is best for this. Place on baking sheets and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Remove and serve with mustard. Best to let these cool slightly before enjoying!
